Copenhagen Winter Jazz Festival

Posted 1 February 2012 by Smunk

Copenhagen invites you to get winter jazzy for the next two weeks!

The annual Copenhagen Winter Jazz festival has kick-off today and runs for two full weeks, with big and small jazz concerts all over Denmark.

One of the ideas behind the Winter Jazz festival is to put focus on all the dedicated jazz places all over Denmark, and to encourage different music venues to be more jazzy..

Most of the concerts are being held at small music venues and have free entries.

So get out there – support your local music café or bar and get jazzier! It will definitely keep you warm in the winter cold!

Fatamorgana – a school that nurses artistic photographers, is hosting a vernissage friday at Stadens Museum for kunst at Christiania.

I personally recommend this, as I happen to know one of the exhibiters and if his work is the standard, I predict that the exhibition will be amazing.

Beers and beats are available at the gallery.

I know it’s not December yet – but we are getting close; and if you are a part of the bunch that already sings carols in august – I’m sure you won’t mind a Christmas market in late November.

This weekend the school of Design & Architecture opens the doors to the annual Christmas Market. Here you’ll find the usual christmas snacks combined with different unique items, arty artefact and handicrafts all for sale and all made by the very talented students.

The premises and general atmosphere are very “hyggelige” and might be enought to bring you into the christmas spirit – that is, if you haven’t already caught it.

Free entrance

14:00 – 19:00 // free entrance

The art gallery Stadens Museum for kunst – not to be confused with Statens Museum for kunst (National Gallery of Denmark), is celebrating the 40th year anniversary of the freetown Christiania.

In this context Stadens Museum for kunst will soon reveal a program for  2011, only presenting artists with some kind of connection to Christiania.

The year of tributes to the freetown begins with the “work in progress” exhibition White canvasses and tightened frames where artist Trine Sørensen, day by day will make art happen together with other Christianian artists.

On the floor, Anders Hansen is exhibiting his REPOSE chairs – build by fragments from the Iron-lot; No paint - just rust and zinc.

The vernissage is a great oportunity to combine a visit to Christiania together with art and I’m sure – a festive atmosphere.

If you are in for some cultural treats, this is the right place to be! Students from creative schools and academies around the country are gathering to break down the boundaries between different art forms. Sounds like something we would like.

You can experience everything from art works and installations to acting, music and other live-performances. Different genres will unfurl and challenge the stereotypical notion of what art can do.

Also, you can just relax your senses and treat yourself with some delicacies from Riccos, Letz Sushi and Gelato Siciliano.

Remember to bring cash!
