Why is he handing out free beers? Because, and I quote:

48 hours, 16 actors, 4 playwrights, 4 directors and 4 premieres.

The theathre concept “Det Kolde Bord #2” (The Cold Table) welcomes all of us to the premiere of 4 plays written, directed and staged within 48 hours, by a bunch of young talented cool people.

It all takes place on the stage “Planeten” at Huset i Magstræde. Although the 4 plays are all in Danish, I have to recommend it anyways because of the great experience I had the last time it took place. After the 4 plays there will be a party, both on the stage and out by the bar, which boasts cheap prices.

So if you’re not the theatre-type come anyway, have a dance, meet some funny people and have a drink, beer or soda around The Cold Table.

The first opening at Pleasant. Quite similar to One Day Gallery that held exhibitions in 2010 and 2011, the idea is simple: one day, vernissage plus finissage and pieces only by non-Danish artists. Everything quite intense considering the length of the exhibition but with champagne and hopefully plenty of people. And since it takes place at the Academy of Fine Arts at Kongens Nytorv, a perfect idea would be to see it before the Opening at Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Nyhavn Show map

KC’s Spring Exhibition (which is an open submission exhibition) opens for the fifth time with 70 artists from all round the world, chosen from among 715 applicants. Their artworks revolve mostly around body, performance and sexuality and fall into broad spectrum of genres including installation, film, new media and performance (worth mentioning would be The Humping Pact by D. Paranyushkin and D. Agullo with naked men on the opening night).

The Vernissage takes place Tursday evening at Kunsthal Charlottenborg (being a beautiful place itself) in Nyhavn and the exhibition lasts until May 6.

Kunsthallen Nikolaj, Nikolaj church at Nikolaj Plads 10, city Show map

If you’re already in the inner city of Copenhagen, I suggest you to stop by Nikolaj Church for a vj experience.

Until now, I’ve only experienced vj’s as a supplement to another performance, but now, as a part of the video art festival ‘Fokus’, the vj Max Beta will have the honor of being the sole attraction.

We saw how beautiful a vj can light up a church, when Brorsons Church held their annual electro night last spring. This is also the reason why this event got my attention – laser beams shaping changing and elusive spaces inside a church accompanied by a background soundscape just sound delicious to me.

Grand Teatret, Mikkel Bryggersgade 8, sidestreet to Strøget, city Show map

A “behind the scene” documentary about six european skate photographers, filmed completely on super 8 film. I’m not that much into skating, but this sounds like a big aesthetic experience. Especially if you’re both interested in photography and skating.

Also some of the photos from the movie will be exhibited at hotel Fox (no entrance fee). Hotel Fox has some of the most amazing interieur decorations I’ve seen . If you haven’t been there yet – this is a good opportunity to both see a (I presume) great exhibition and a hotel out of the ordinary.

Huset, Magstræde 14, second floor Show map

Huset i Magstræde (the house in Magstræde) hosts various cultural events such as independant theatre and concerts. The house is really cosy and is located in the “old” crooked part of inner city.

There’s also a small cinema in the house, that features selected cult movies and on tuesday you can experience the cinema for free, when the Danish short film Søndag / herfra hvor vi står (Sunday / from where we stand) has its premier.

I’m expecting something really Copenhagen’ish as the main character is Steen Jørgensen, an “old” beloved Danish musician and because the story takes place in a traditional courtyard in Nørrebro. The plot is love.

The short film is 30 minutes long and is shown four times from 19:00 – 22:00. Remember cash if you want something from the bar. Prepare yourself for an all Danish experience; without knowing, I’m guessing it’s without subtitles – but don’t let that scare you off, love is an universal language right?

Bremen Theatre, Nyrupsgade 39 - 41, city Show map

Frost festival – a winter music festival – begins today and is celebrated with a party at Bremen Theatre.

The dj set looks cool – not that I’m an expert. But if I were to choose an alternative to the established club scene tonight, this would definitely be it!

Kronprinse​nsgade 9, in the back at Le Fix behind Cheep Monday Show map

A great way to start your weekend could be by dropping by Kronprinsensgade 9 in the backyard and chill with the two shops Cheap Monday and  Le Fix.

The two shops invites you to pancakes, coffee and some cold beers and don’t worry about the cold, there´s heat from inflamed oil barrels. The whole event is a continuation of a semi-annual neighborhood party  which is held at Kronprinsensgade. The street has been shut down for everyday traffic so that people can drop by and sit and chill in the street, enjoy DJ’s playing music and have a little fun wth friends.

So if you feel like celebrating the start of a great weekend, drop by  the backyard at Kronprinsensgade 9 and bring your perfect after-work/weekend mood and your friends.

Copenhagen invites you to get winter jazzy for the next two weeks!

The annual Copenhagen Winter Jazz festival has kick-off today and runs for two full weeks, with big and small jazz concerts all over Denmark.

One of the ideas behind the Winter Jazz festival is to put focus on all the dedicated jazz places all over Denmark, and to encourage different music venues to be more jazzy..

Most of the concerts are being held at small music venues and have free entries.

So get out there – support your local music café or bar and get jazzier! It will definitely keep you warm in the winter cold!
