Posted 1 February 2012 by Smunk

Copenhagen invites you to get winter jazzy for the next two weeks!

The annual Copenhagen Winter Jazz festival has kick-off today and runs for two full weeks, with big and small jazz concerts all over Denmark.

One of the ideas behind the Winter Jazz festival is to put focus on all the dedicated jazz places all over Denmark, and to encourage different music venues to be more jazzy..

Most of the concerts are being held at small music venues and have free entries.

So get out there – support your local music café or bar and get jazzier! It will definitely keep you warm in the winter cold!

The Nørrebro Alliance has put together an outdoor concert sheltered from rain and wind under one of the big roofs in Nørrebro park.
If you like rock, indie and new wave I bet you’ll love this event.

Nørrebro has developed a reputation for creating new music with an edgy sound and is now giving you a free opportunity to experience this in person.

There will of course be a bar at the site.

If you have lunch break, are not in school, work, aktivering, I highly recommend to hang out  around Empire Cinema at Nørrebro 12 o’clock on thursday.

From Empire Cinema you are taken on a little walk, and as you go you experience Nørrebro as you know it, transformed by weird occurrences, colorful performances and shocking surprises.

10:00 – 21:00 // no entrance fee

When I read about this new bar/restaurant I knew I just had to spread the word. Welcome to Grødbar – the worlds first porridge bar.

Behind the set up is two young guys, inspired partly by Londonish fast food and neo Scandinavian cuisine.

In the bar you will find new interpreted porridges such as oatmeal porridge boiled in ginger/carrot juice. On saturday you will have the opportunity to taste some and listen to soothing live jazz.

I think it sounds really interesting, cosy and a good way to welcome fall.

If the summer holiday (or lack of) has got you all dazzled, OHOI! is here to shake things up a bit!

The biggest outdoor rave of the year is coming up and I want you to join in and feel the bass drill it’s way across your body with us.

OHOI! is Denmark’s probably best established promoter of UK drum’n'bass music and with their gigantic Funktion-One sound system and DJ skills it is impossible to stop dancing!

The music will be a mix of dubstep, dancehall, reggae and grime just to mention some of the genres represented and last year more than 1200 crazy ravers participated.

RubA’Dub Crew (feat. Malachy & Mission), Firehouse, Wobble Squad, Kidd, Kesi & B.O.C, Eloq, Unity Hi-Fi and Beastie Respond are just some of the many cool DJ’s on the line-up.

To see the entire line-up check out: www.ohoi.dk

It takes place under the bridge called Bispeengbuen, a 6-tracks high way on the border between Frederiksberg and Nørrebro. It’s for free and I bet you will have a great time no matter if you wear neon glasses or not.

2 June: Distortion – thursday mini guide

free

14:00 – late // free

It is Distortion thursday and I’m still going strong – this time at Nørrebro. Apart from all the sweet street parties all around Nørrebro, I especially think the followings are worth checking out:

Red Cross Youth is hosting a Distortion charity event. The beers are cheep and the sausages red. AND it takes place at Nørrebro park – bring your blanket and take a nap if you haven’t had much sleep from the day before.

Pukemaster is hosting a rather interesting event, where you are a piece in a big scale board game called “sex in the grass”. Apart from being a playing party piece - drinks are nice and cheep – and if you get tired of beers and booze, they even serve wine (!).

During Distortion this year, Copenhagen attempts to set the Guinness World Record for the largest paint party, with “the most people contributing to the same painting simultaneously.”

With 100 meters of wall, 1000 liters of paint, and 10,0000 brushes, it is estimated that over 15,000 participants will assist in this collective project. The final piece will be titled “the unknown masterpiece” and will also be Denmarks longest painting. The record attempt will also be overseen by an Official  Guinness World Record representative on site.

Everyone is encouraged to get involved, and unite to help paint history!

From 14:00-late // free

Look forward to a local atmosphere when the well-known Nørrebro street takes on the annual street party. Summer has hit Copenhagen and this is one of the many occasions where the city has the possibility to show its very best.

Three stages around Blågårdsgade will make sure that everyone is entertained, and during the day, you can also find a flea market by the Church. Usually it is a good chance to hang out, bump into friends and share some nice food and drinks.

If you are a party animal, then go for one of the after-parties at Stengade, Støberiet or Global.

There’s plenty of 2200 Love for all.
