Kopenhagen Contemporary Opening GaloreThis is the opening of Kopenhagen Comptemporary, which is a four day celebration of the vibrant art scene in Copenhagen in collaboration with the city’s 50 leading galleries.

This event will be the grand opening of 7 different openings on Vesterbro. There will be performances, DJs, visuals, drinks, beers, sausages and thai food. What more can one want.

27 August: Glæd Dig! – Music for a good Cause

Now you get the opportunity to party all night and support a good cause while doing it!

Glæd Dig! (Eng: Rejoice!) is a voluntary association with the aim of organizing parties and events where all profits go to social development projects.

The idea is to prove that philanthropy can and should be a fun and natural part of the Copenhagen city life.

The first event will be held in the old Carlsberg, where proceeds will go to Kikwetu Youth Soccer Academy – a volunteer driven Football School in Nairobi, Kenya.

16-22 August: STRØM Festival 2010

The annual festival for the celebration of electronic music is about to hit the parks, streets and venues of Copenhagen.

Allthough STRØM is only hosting its fourth edition this year it has evolved each year presenting the city as a dynamic capital when it comes to broadcasting a strong selection within the electronic music scene. Check out the homepage for more info and a full line up.

Here is a brief overview of some of the free or cheap pleasures during the festival:

14 August: Sounds from the Meat Packing District

Go visit Jolene Bar and listen to nice tunes from Ed Davenport (UK/GER) and Danish artists like Waqar, Zzzune, Candy Crack, Christian Alexander, Emil Boserup, Philip Flindt and Kristian.

16 August: Trans Metro Express
@Copenhagen Metro, departure from Vestamager Station // 19:00-21:00

As part of STRØM you can hop on the metro train and experience an audio journey through the city literally speaking.
Enjoy soundscapes from Rumpistol, Eloq, JSL and Maffi. And remember it’s free – all you need is a valid metro ticket.

21 August: REWIND & STRØM Final Party
@TAP-E (the old Carlsberg), Pasteursvej 20, Copenhagen V // 23:00 until late // 80 Dkk

Expect nothing less than a bang of a party when N-Type is dropping by the old Carlsberg. As one of the leading dubstep selectors one might expect him carrying around some serious goodies in his bag containing the latest dubplates. Among others the line up will also include F-One and JJ Louis.

You can follow the walking soundsystem from the concerts in Enghaveparken directly to TAP-E. Otherwise just follow the torches…or the electric flow.

14 August: Sundevedsgade Street Party

From the afternoon there is a street basket tournament or you can beat your friends in knock out ping pong.

You won’t be missing any food, drinks and Café Polala is taking care of great coffee  to go with cake. Café Ludwigsen’s nice girls will serve some ice cold Coronas.

During the night the DJs will fire up under the turntable and the party will continue on at Kung Fu.

Once again it’s time for the annual celebration of art and music put together in one big lovely package of genuine respect for the artists who dare to challenge.

The Trailerpark festival organized and produced by Artrebels is already known for its charming ability to master the difficult art of balancing between experimental artistic expressions and music and dj features.

So sit tight and enjoy sweetness from Danish artists like Vinnie Who, Fallulah and Chimes & Bells, Prinzhorn Danceschool from UK or German djs like DJ Hell and Krause Duo among others.

With a mixed constellation of both Copenhagener and international artists the Artrebels crew will show you that vibrant and colorful expression has much to say.

The small label New-Owh Records is hosting a summer show outside in the hopefully nice Copenhagen summer weather.

9 July: WAS Opening – Lonely Fruit

This summer WAS gallery has invited the young photographer Alastair Philip Wiper to show his fascinating work. The solo exhibition is called ‘Lonely Fruit’ which refers to people, animals and specific objects all isolated in their surroundings – sometimes lost and confused, sometimes tranquil and at peace.

Alastair Philip Wiper is a British, Copenhagen based photographer with a burning need to see more things and experience new situations and at the same time with a great appreciation of the quiet, lonely, isolated and almost meditative moments.

So if you’re out for a walk about in Vesterbro you should drop by WAS and give yourself a short break the aesthetically way. The exhibition runs from July 9 until July 23.

Grab your bike and be part of the biking culture that will take place around Halmtorvet. To round up VeloCity Global – the largest conference on bikes and biking culture, there will be three days of festive Copenhagen style hygge – biking style that is.

You can stop by the workshop, donate your bike to Africa, participate in the bike polo tournament or have a sneak preview of the Bicycle Film Festival. Mesteren & Lærlingen will host Thursday and Friday night after parties.

Saturday you can join the trip towards Roskilde Festival with Green Footsteps.  Departure at 10 o’clock.
