29 January: Host Guest Ghost: Artistic Event & Soup

Posted 18 January 2012 by Lene
DANSEhallerne på Carlsberg, Pasteursvej 14, 1778 København V Show map

14:00 – 16:00 // no entrance fee (free soup for the first 200 visitors)

The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and DANSEhallerne have invited the Brazilian artist Ricardo Basbaum for a hospitality project of 14 days in Copenhagen.

The project is called ‘Host Guest Ghost’ which states what seems to be the essence of the project: An international exchange of different types of art between the professional guest and the students of the Art Academy. The ghost in this matter is what happens when the audience and the artists meet.

At the 1st event in March 2011 the audience witnessed Chef Magnus Sonne on stage surrounded by heaps of ingredients and 2 modern dancers, dancing to the beat of his knife.

I can’t tell you what will happen this time, but it’s definitely going to be centred on words and soup, and most likely include more joy than an ordinary sleepy Sunday at home.

I know it’s not December yet – but we are getting close; and if you are a part of the bunch that already sings carols in august – I’m sure you won’t mind a Christmas market in late November.

This weekend the school of Design & Architecture opens the doors to the annual Christmas Market. Here you’ll find the usual christmas snacks combined with different unique items, arty artefact and handicrafts all for sale and all made by the very talented students.

The premises and general atmosphere are very “hyggelige” and might be enought to bring you into the christmas spirit – that is, if you haven’t already caught it.

15 November: Guerrilla Lighting

IT University, head entrance, Rued Langgaards Vej 7, Ørestad Show map
free entrance

19:00 – 20:30 // No entrance fee

Fall has come and the darkness with it. I say, why not exploit the darkness instead of mourning the light of summer?
This is exactly what Guerrilla Lighting is about; cutting through darkness with numerous colors, making the night appear as your allie.
The installation is a living piece and only appears when you do. This practically means that the 50 people (maybe you included?) are handed a flashlight and together light up a building and create a temporary light installation.

Show up at the head entrance of the university and take a tour around the exhibition.

If you want to be a part of the installation, you can volunteer at www.lysetsdag.dk

17-19 // free entrance

This thursday Copenhagen Photo Festival will be kick started by the opening of the exhibition:

5 x personal projects.

I have taken a small peep and I most say I am truly impressed by the work and the diversity of the subjetcs represented:

Maria Fonfara shows scenes, which most people probably don’t see very often about love, sex and intimacy in the third age, about loosing your partner and accepting the decay of the body.

Christian Holst takes you to Burma, one of the poorest countries in the world, where people are strongly oppressed by social inequality and disrespected human rights.

Thomas Lekfeldt tells the story of three poor, danish families and the missing resources in their daily life, which most people probably take for granded.

Mads Nissen puts a focus on Denmark’s fallen soldiers and shows photos kindly provided by  families who have lost someone in the war against terror in Afghanistan.

Last but definitely not least Jonathan Bjerg Møller emphasizes the forgotten food crisis in Niger, where more than 10 million people were starving and in great need of help, but never came even close to the media’s attention because of the simultaneously happening earthquake in Haiti and floods in Pakistan.

The exhibition will run from 9th-19th of June.

Sons of Studio, Kødboderne 14, Copenhagen V Show map

19:00-23:00 // free entrance

The idea behind Vector Lounge is simply a one-on-one design battle held simultaneously in Berlin and different cities and for the first time ever Vector Lounge will be held in Copenhagen.

The procedure is simple: Each city has a team of four graphic designers who will create an artwork live in front of the audience.

Each designer gets 30 minutes to create and finish the artwork and will battle one-on-one on a given topic. You can follow the whole making of the artwork live in Copenhagen and on livestream on www.westberlingallery.com.

All works will be uploaded to the website for the audience to vote on the best design. Copenhagen’s team consists of artists Viktor Henderson and Jakob Tolstrup, illustrator Rune Preuthun and graphic designer Sune Christiansen.

The warm-up begins at 19:00 with free Hoegaarden beer and cafe Dyrehaven will serve a cheap hot meal. Music will be provided by SunnyBeachHappySlapMardiGras and Ulle69.

29 Oct-14 November: Markings Light Installations

Posted 30 October 2010 by Anne
@Sjælør Station, Sjælør Boulevard, Valby Show map

all day // free

armsrock markingsDanish street artist called Armsrock has created a light installation at a distinct place in Copenhagen. The area around Sjælør Station is definitely not associated with anything trendy or fashionable, but has that rough urban feel, which has probably inspired Armsrock pick this place for an installation.

Get off the train at Sjælør, preferably at night time, and you will be met by a slideshow outside the station. Another slideshow awaits you if you turn right. Hang out for a bit to see people’s reactions as well.

The installations will be running from 29 October – 14 November 2010.
