Bitchslap magazine – one of the coolest independant magazines in the DK. If you don’t know it yet, I suggest you find a free copy in one of the hotspots they’re distributed to. Or even better – snatch a copy at the Bitchslap#14 release party.

Bitchslap, to me, is subculture, street, art, fashion, design, photography, music and coolness. Check it out.

At the party, there’ll be dj’s, a (supposedly) legendary dance competition, 20,- bar and free Tuborg Gold from 21:00 – 22:00.

13-26 November: Make Your Move-choreography workshop

It’s time to get out of your comfort zone!

The cross-cultural event Make Your Move is now running in Copenhagen and everyone is welcome to join.

In short Make Your Move is a competition in dance-choreography and stage art for 15-25 year-olds in Morocco and Denmark.

Professional choreographers give free master classes and at each workshop 2 talents are found. When all 5 workshops in Copenhagen have taken place, the 10 selected talents get a few weeks to make their choreography for the Make Your Move Award Show at Dansescenen, Copenhagen December 11th. Check out facebook for more information.

I have participated in one of the workshops already and I am very excited about the concept! Yes, it is scary to show the other participants what you have come up with in the short amount of time given at the workshop, but it is such a great feeling when you just let yourself go and start interpreting the music your own way.

So, if you are curious and feel like you have some kind of idea or inspiration in your head, please just show up and do it for the thrill of turning your imagination into movements. When you have come up with your interpretation of the song, you and the other participants will be split up in smaller groups and you start showing each other your work. Then you will get the chance to suggest a way of putting participants’ pieces together due to your idea of the mood, room and so on and this is the actual choreography work taking place. I felt so inspired when I left the workshop and I hope you will feel the same way. It is simply too cool to dare do something like this!

21 October: Streetmekka, 1 year B-day

One year ago Copenhagen got this super cool street facilities’ area called StreetMekka. Streetmekka is an initiative to improve the circumstances for street culture in Denmark by offering dance-, parkour-, soccer-, DJ- and basket ball classes INDOOR.
It is kept loyal to the street by looking sort of rough inside with the graffiti decorated concrete walls and asphalted basket ball lots. No wonder Streetmekka has become real popular during the year and friday it is time to celebrate this!

On B-day ALL CLASSES ARE FREE and no matter if you would like to join in or just watch, I think there are some really cool things going on:

Dance battles, drawing workshops, DJ school, street soccer, concerts, double-dutch and live media coverage by DR.

See the entire program

No doubt it will be great and of course there is an after party to attend to as well. After party at Rust See you there!

14:00 – late // free

Friday. Are we still there? Yes we are! This time it’s Vesterbro – my hood: Check this out:

Yes I know – there are going to be interesting music all over the place – still. I recommend these guys at Flensborggade as I listened to their music last year. Really interesting and different tech (in a good way of course).

Free style rappers, break dancers, barbeque, cocktail- & beer bar at Saxogade - one of the most hyggelige streets on Vesterbro – they know how to throw a street party – I know for a fact.

And yes it is friday – parties are everywhere!

2 June: Distortion – thursday mini guide

14:00 – late // free

It is Distortion thursday and I’m still going strong – this time at Nørrebro. Apart from all the sweet street parties all around Nørrebro, I especially think the followings are worth checking out:

Red Cross Youth is hosting a Distortion charity event. The beers are cheep and the sausages red. AND it takes place at Nørrebro park – bring your blanket and take a nap if you haven’t had much sleep from the day before.

Pukemaster is hosting a rather interesting event, where you are a piece in a big scale board game called “sex in the grass”. Apart from being a playing party piece - drinks are nice and cheep – and if you get tired of beers and booze, they even serve wine (!).

The choreography ‘En Luftning’ (An Airing) breaks the division between spectator and stage. The presence and movement from the audience on stage define the dancers road through space.

A relationship between the audience and dancers which shapes the whole experience with a new imprint each evening.

In ‘Fjer & Stiletter’ (feathers & heels) you can experience Helle Bach show and tell the story about her personal experiences at the colorful Folies Bergere in Paris.

Drop by Dansehallerne and get an insight into the relationship between long legs, high breasts and the transform into a true showgirl.
