2 April: Basco5 Exhibition Opening

Posted 31 March 2010 by Anne

@ Helvetikat, Holsteingade 2, Copenhagen Ø
17:00-21:00 // Free entrance

The artist Basco5 aka Nils Blishen presents his work at the exhibition space Helvetikat. It is his first solo show in Denmark and is a celebration of his journey.

In his late 20′s, he worked hard to create a name for himself. Basco5 started his art career in Vancouver and is now based in Copenhagen where his art is often found in urban space. His work may at first glance come across as cute, but upon further inspection, you can also see meanings reflecting pain, tattoos, violence, hope and many other themes.

The exhibition runs until 4 May 2010.
Open Tuesday 17-20, Saturday 12-15 – or try knocking on the door.

26 March: Wrong & Body Language exhibitions

Posted 22 March 2010 by Mai Ji

@ V1 Gallery, Flæsketorvet 69, Copenhagen V
17:00-22:00 // Free

The lovely V1 gallery invites you to solo exhibitions by the artists Asger Carlsen and Matthew Stone. Using photography as a tool both artists explore grey areas in the twilight zone between genre, media, morals and humans.

In ‘Wrong’ Asger Carlsen taps into a subconsious river that runs through all of us. We know we are looking at a manipulated reality, but it is as tangible as the real. So you can expect simultaneous entertainment, attraction and confusion.

Matthew Stone’s human landscapes are both monumental and simple, strong and fragile. This is his first solo exhibition in DK and ‘Body Language’ not only makes you use your imagination as his works are known for creating a story rather than to document it. So you can expect many thoughts and ideas and people chattering about exciting associations at this opening night.

15 January: Mormor Exhibition Opening

Posted 7 January 2010 by Anne

@ Helvetikat, Holsteingade 2, 2100 Copenhagen Ø
17:00-22:00 // Free entrance

Go see the small exhibition space Helvetikat that opened in Østerbro about a year ago.

Maybe for this opening, where the street artists called Mormor (grandmother) invites everyone inside for some Danish hygge in the cold winter time. Maybe all the drawings will leave some warm marks in your soul.

The small gallery works within all corners of culture, but they say that it is always with an explorative, playful and participatory approach. We dig that.

The exhibition runs until 12 February – open Wednesday 17-20 and Saturday 12-16.

Experience the first solo exhibition with the young Finnish artist Kim Simonsson. A pregnant girl with an expressionless face of gold: Kim Simonssons large ceramic sculptures are at first sight harmonious but upon closer look beneath the surface of the childish creatures a simmering brutality apears.

So if you are inspired by Japanese anime and manga – go to this opening. The exhibition is also a part of the Kopenhagen Contemporary festival that takes place all over Copenhagen 18 – 20 September.
