17:00 – ?? // no entrance fee

Fatamorgana – a school that nurses artistic photographers, is hosting a vernissage friday at Stadens Museum for kunst at Christiania.

I personally recommend this, as I happen to know one of the exhibiters and if his work is the standard, I predict that the exhibition will be amazing.

Beers and beats are available at the gallery.

9 June: Opening: 5 x Personal Projects

17-19 // free entrance

This thursday Copenhagen Photo Festival will be kick started by the opening of the exhibition:

5 x personal projects.

I have taken a small peep and I most say I am truly impressed by the work and the diversity of the subjetcs represented:

Maria Fonfara shows scenes, which most people probably don’t see very often about love, sex and intimacy in the third age, about loosing your partner and accepting the decay of the body.

Christian Holst takes you to Burma, one of the poorest countries in the world, where people are strongly oppressed by social inequality and disrespected human rights.

Thomas Lekfeldt tells the story of three poor, danish families and the missing resources in their daily life, which most people probably take for granded.

Mads Nissen puts a focus on Denmark’s fallen soldiers and shows photos kindly provided by  families who have lost someone in the war against terror in Afghanistan.

Last but definitely not least Jonathan Bjerg Møller emphasizes the forgotten food crisis in Niger, where more than 10 million people were starving and in great need of help, but never came even close to the media’s attention because of the simultaneously happening earthquake in Haiti and floods in Pakistan.

The exhibition will run from 9th-19th of June.

@ WAS Gallery, Absalonsgade 21B, Copenhagen V Show map

17:00-22:00 // Free entrance

This summer WAS gallery has invited the young photographer Alastair Philip Wiper to show his fascinating work. The solo exhibition is called ‘Lonely Fruit’ which refers to people, animals and specific objects all isolated in their surroundings – sometimes lost and confused, sometimes tranquil and at peace.

Alastair Philip Wiper is a British, Copenhagen based photographer with a burning need to see more things and experience new situations and at the same time with a great appreciation of the quiet, lonely, isolated and almost meditative moments.

So if you’re out for a walk about in Vesterbro you should drop by WAS and give yourself a short break the aesthetically way. The exhibition runs from July 9 until July 23.

28 May: ‘Generation Kan Selv’ – book release

Posted 24 May 2010 by Mai Ji

@ Jolene bar, Meatpacking District, Copenhagen V
19:00-22:00 // Free entrance

In celebration of the publication of the book ‘Generation Kan Selv’ you are invited to the release party at Jolene Bar. The book is an anthology about a generation – by a generation.

A group of selected young people from different parts of the Danish political and creative layer has been tasked to relate to their own generation through text and picture: Who are we, how are we and why do we do it?

Through personal and honest essays they each relate to being a part of something that is not yet defined – something as abstract as a generation.

So drop by and meet some of the contributors, enjoy a glass of wine og listen to nice tunes by Cecilie Brandel. At the event you will have the chance to buy the book with a 25% discount – so bring cash.

14 May: Contemporary Art Photography

Posted 8 May 2010 by Mai Ji

@ The Royal Danish Academy of Arts, Kgs Nytorv 1, Copenhagen K
10:00-17:00 // Free

As part of Copenhagen Photo Festival you will have the chance to join a symposium where you can start a debate with eight of the artists who are participating in the main exhibition of the festival.

The theme of the debate will mainly be focusing on the status of photography within both media and art between fiction and documentation so you can probably expect lots of topics within this field to be turned upside down.

During the symposium you will also have a rare opportunity to meet all eight photographers who will be presenting their work, ready to discuss theory and practice. So come and join the debate and take a look at some of the most interesting photos of today and meet the people behind the images.

To join the event just send an email to conference@copenhagenphotofestival.com

26 March: Wrong & Body Language exhibitions

Posted 22 March 2010 by Mai Ji

@ V1 Gallery, Flæsketorvet 69, Copenhagen V
17:00-22:00 // Free

The lovely V1 gallery invites you to solo exhibitions by the artists Asger Carlsen and Matthew Stone. Using photography as a tool both artists explore grey areas in the twilight zone between genre, media, morals and humans.

In ‘Wrong’ Asger Carlsen taps into a subconsious river that runs through all of us. We know we are looking at a manipulated reality, but it is as tangible as the real. So you can expect simultaneous entertainment, attraction and confusion.

Matthew Stone’s human landscapes are both monumental and simple, strong and fragile. This is his first solo exhibition in DK and ‘Body Language’ not only makes you use your imagination as his works are known for creating a story rather than to document it. So you can expect many thoughts and ideas and people chattering about exciting associations at this opening night.
